ADEN-SABA
The Ministry of Transport condemned and strongly decried the targeting of Aden International Airport by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias this afternoon, Saturday, with two ballistic missiles, marking the fourth time this month, as part of their attacks on vital civilian facilities that serve citizens, travelers and patients.
The ministry issued a statement learned by the Yemen News Agency (Saba), in which it reaffirmed that Aden International Airport is considered a vital civilian facility protected under international law, as it is used to transport civilians, humanitarian aid, and medical evacuations.
The statement noted that targeting the airport poses a threat to the safety of civil aviation and the security of passengers and airport staff, in addition to its humanitarian and economic impacts on citizens, particularly patients, students, expatriates, and travelers who rely on the airport for their movements.
The ministry emphasized that keeping airports, civilian facilities and public service infrastructures away from conflicts is an urgent necessity, according to relevant international laws and agreements, primarily the rules governing civil aviation safety and the protection of civilian installations.
The ministry called on the international community, the United Nations and international organizations concerned with civil aviation, especially the International Civil Aviation Organization, to condemn these attacks and take serious measures to ensure the protection of civilian airports, hold those responsible for endangering civilians’ lives accountable, and not only publish statements of concern and condemnation.
