UN Security Council Reaffirms Commitment to Yemen’s Unity and Sovereignty
[12/09/2025 05:32]
New York – Saba
Members of the United Nations Security Council reaffirmed their strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, as well as their support for the Yemeni people.

They also reiterated their backing for the efforts of UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg to reach a comprehensive, inclusive political settlement, led and owned by Yemenis, based on agreed-upon references and in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions.

In a press statement issued on the detention of United Nations personnel by the Houthi group, the Council underscored its concern over the ongoing violations in Houthi-controlled areas, including the abduction of at least 21 UN staff members, the storming of UN premises, and the seizure of humanitarian property—actions that blatantly violate international law.

The Council called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained UN and NGO workers and condemned any threats targeting humanitarian personnel.

It warned that such actions risk worsening Yemen's already dire humanitarian crisis and called for full respect of international humanitarian law, particularly the need for safe and unimpeded humanitarian access.
