Health Minister: We Aim to Leverage Chinese Expertise in Developing Health Sector in Yemen
[15/08/2025 06:45]
BEIJING - SABA

Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Qasem Buhybeh has called for establishing a hospital in Yemen that offers traditional Chinese medicine services alongside modern medical services.

In a statement to the Yemeni news agency (Saba) during his current visit to the People's Republic of China, Minister Buhybeh confirmed the ministry's readiness to coordinate for the opening of the hospital through various forms of investment or bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.

He also emphasized the deep historical relations between the Republic of Yemen and the People's Republic of China since the 1950s, noting that Yemen was one of the first countries to establish good relations with China, which in turn provided support to Yemen in various sectors, including health, by establishing several hospitals such as al-Thawra Hospital in Taiz, the China Hospital in Adenband the Maternity and Child Hospital in Sana'a, in addition to training health personnel.

He pointed out that China has provided significant support to the Yemeni health sector over the past five years, represented by sending three ships loaded with modern medical equipment and devices, which contributed to enhancing the capabilities of the health sector, especially in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, where hospitals and ambulances were fully equipped with that aid.

The Health Minister highlighted the importance of building on this momentum and expanding areas of cooperation, especially in light of the Belt and Road Initiative, in which Yemen is an important part.

He expressed hope that health aspects would receive a substantial share of these initiatives and activate several joint programs to support the health system in the country.
