MAHRA - SABA
The Security Committee in Mahra Governorate announced that the relevant authorities at the Sarfit border crossing detained a leading figure in the Houthi militia, wanted by security authorities, while he was attempting to leave the country for the Sultanate of Oman on the evening of Monday, July 7, 2025.
In a statement, the committee clarified that the authorities detained the individual named Mohammed Ahmed Ali al-Zayidi, who holds a diplomatic passport issued by the Houthi militia in Sana'a, described as "an officer in the armed forces."
The statement indicated that simultaneously with the detention, a vehicle armed with militants associated with him was observed stationed outside the crossing, prompting an increase in security readiness, reinforcement of guards, and precautionary measures to ensure the security of the crossing and the safety of transit movements.
Additionally, a military force was mobilized from Ghayda city towards Houf district to enhance the security mission, but it was ambushed in the Damqout area by armed elements outside the law, resulting in the killing of Colonel Abdullah Zaid, the commander of the tank battalion in the 137th Infantry Brigade and injuring two other members of the force.
The statement continued: "A joint campaign continues its efforts to track down and apprehend those involved in the terrorist attack, deterring anyone who dares to disrupt security, stability, and public peace in Mahra."
The committee confirmed that Al-Zayidi remains in custody of the security forces at the Sarfit crossing, pending his handover to the relevant authorities and completion of legal procedures.
The committee praised the role of security forces, the leadership and personnel of the Ghayda Axis, their high vigilance, and their significant sacrifices to maintain the security and stability of Mahra, as well as the notable successes achieved by the governorate in recent times at all levels.
On behalf of the General Command of the Armed Forces and Security, the committee extended its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family of the martyr, praying that God grants him eternal rest in Paradise and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
