ADEN - SABA
President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, met Monday with Prime Minister Salem Saleh Bin Breik, Central Bank Governor Ahmed Ghaleb and Head of the Economic Team Hossam al-Sharjabi.
The meeting, attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Hani Wahab, focused on local developments, particularly economic and service conditions, changes related to the national currency exchange rates, the path of governmental reforms and the necessary measures to improve the state's access to its sovereign resources.
It also aimed to enhance coordinated interventions with various entities to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The meeting addressed economic performance indicators and the approved spending plan to meet the state's commitments, including the regular payment of employee salaries and the sustainability of essential services, especially the provision of necessary oil derivatives to operate government electricity stations.
The meeting listened to briefings from the Prime Minister, Central Bank Governor, and Head of the Economic Team regarding financial and monetary indicators, in light of the continued halt of oil exports and its disastrous impact on living conditions, as well as the measures taken to mitigate the repercussions of the destructive practices of the Houthi terrorist militias on the national economy.
The Prime Minister also discussed urgent decisions and measures taken by the Cabinet in its last meeting to address the electricity crisis, including providing emergency fuel supplies for power generation stations in the temporary capital, Aden, and increasing their daily allocations of crude oil and diesel.
During the meeting, President al-Alimi emphasized the importance of intensifying governmental efforts to meet the state's essential commitments, advance comprehensive reforms, and enhance the role of the Central Bank in managing monetary policy, using its tools to curb inflation and support the national currency.
He reiterated that the economic and service file will remain the most significant challenge for the Council and the government and will be at the forefront of their highest priorities. He highlighted the role of brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, whose economic, developmental, and humanitarian interventions have been a key factor in the state's continued fulfillment of its essential commitments over the past years.
