China's autos industry grows in 1Q 2025

Data from the China Automobile Manufacturers Association showed that car production and sales in China in the first quarter of 2025 reached 7.561 million and 7.47 million units, respectively, with year-on-year increases of 14.5 percent and 11.2 percent, while the production and sales of new energy vehicles increased by 50.4 percent and 47.1 percent, respectively.

The automotive sector witnessed a remarkable boom, Thanks to the stimulus policies, production and sales of passenger cars in the first quarter reaching 6.513 million and 6.419 million units, year-on-year increases of 16.1 percent and 12.9 percent, respectively. Policies such as replacing old cars with new ones, distributing vouchers and tax breaks have pushed consumers to buy new cars.

Data from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce published by the Chinese news agency (Xinhua) showed that requests for support related to replacing old cars with new ones exceeded 1.769 million requests as of March 28, and car companies rushed to introduce new models with advanced technologies to meet the growing demand.

New energy vehicles continue to grow rapidly, with first-quarter production reaching 3.182 million units and sales of 3.075 million, accounting for more than 40 percent of total new car sales.

Chinese brands have seen remarkable growth, with sales of Chinese-branded passenger cars reaching 4.369 million units, a year-on-year increase of 28.8 percent, and a market share of 68.1 percent.
