The German government has confirmed that the new tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump are an economic mistake and represent an attack on the global trading system.

Outgoing Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in a statement on Thursday that the imposition of U.S. tariffs would hurt the entire global economy, both for businesses and consumers around the world and in the United States as well.
