The US Department of State held a ceremony Today, Wednesday, to honor a number of female figures with the 2025 Woman of Courage Award, including the President of the Association of Mothers of Abductees, the activist Amat al-Salam al-Haj.
Al-Haj has been active in highlighting human rights abuses such arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearance and child soldiers. She has been actively involved in activities aimed to draw attention to the abductees, who have been held in the terrorist Houthi militias. She has worked to report about their ordeal, advocate for their rights and mobilize national efforts to get them released.
The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the role and courage of the award winners and their inspiring role in protecting rights and achieving peace and justice.
He stressed that this award in its nineteenth edition represents recognition of the dissemination of the message and the lofty mission for which they struggled.
First Lady Melania Trump also delivered a speech in which she congratulated the winners. She highly praised their courage and achievements, describing that as a message of hope to the whole world.
