Bitcoin climbed above one hundred thousand dollars for the first time today, Thursday, amid expectations that the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump will provide a favorable regulatory environment for the cryptocurrency market.

Bitcoin jumped more than 5 percent to a new record high of $102888.

Bitcoin's value has more than doubled this year and jumped more than 50 percent since Trump's election victory on Nov. 5.

The rise in the value of Bitcoin has made it one of the biggest winners in so-called betting trades on Trump's policies.

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he had chosen Paul Atkins to head the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to replace outgoing Chairman Gary Gensler.
