Governor of Lahj Maj. General Ahmed Turki highlighted the pressing need for greater role and interventions by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lahj governorate to help the local authority cope with increasingly growing needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and refugees from African Horn who have continued to arrive in the governorate on daily basis.
Turki highly appreciated the UNHCR's significant relief actions and sustainable development interventions in the governorate that have proved very helpful to sustain the local authority's efforts to meet the basic needs of the African refugees in Kharaz Camp and the hosting community in the District of al-Madhariba.
The governor made his comments during a plenary meeting held today, Thursday, brought together local authority's senior officials in charge, Deputy Representative of the UNHCR in Yemen Yasser Warice and national partners.
