Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Ahmed Arman, discussed with the representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, the situation of children in Yemen and ways to support them and limit their targeting in military operations.
Minister Arman touched on the mechanisms taken by the Yemeni government to limit the use of children during the armed conflict, which is the establishment of 80 military and security focal points and child protection units in all military and security facilities of the Yemeni government and their involvement in implementing the roadmap agenda signed with the United Nations to prevent child recruitment.
He also welcomed the decision of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to remove the Yemeni army from the blacklist of child recruitment during the armed conflict, reviewing the progress made by the government in reducing the use of children and implementing the UN plan, noting the importance of establishing a center for the reintegration and rehabilitation of children in the interim capital, Aden.
He pointed to the violations of the Houthi militia against children in Yemen and the extent of their criminal activities against children, which include killing, recruitment, sniping and mobilizing children to the frontlines.
