Bin Mubarak, US Chargé d'Affairs discuss Yemen latest developments

Yemen's Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, discussed with the Chargé d'Affaires for the U.S. Embassy to Yemen Cathy Westley the latest developments in Yemen including the political process.

Bin Mubarak denounced the Houthi militia's continued intransigence and rejection of the initiative being offered to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire, reopen Sanaa airport and return to political negotiations, warning that the continued escalation and military aggression by the Houthis, especially against civilians in Marib, exacerbates the humanitarian disaster in Yemen especially the suffering of the internally displaced people.

Bin Mubarak stressed the imperative to complete the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, especially with regard to its security and military aspects, stressing that the Yemeni government engages with a high sense of responsibility in the efforts to resolve the issue with the STC and appreciates the support and efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to ensure the full implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

Bin Mubarak stressed that any measures that hinder the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement are not in the interest of any party, but rather increase the suffering of citizens and impede the implementation of the government's program aimed at restoring economic recovery and improving service conditions in Aden and the rest of the liberated areas.

For her part, Westley affirmed her country's position, which calls on the Houthis to immediately accept ceasefire and enter into negotiations, and also renewed the call for ending all forms of escalatory rhetoric and the need to return to dialogue to implement the Riyadh Agreement and in a manner that achieves the interests of the Yemeni people, stressing her country's support to the legitimate government and to the security, unity and stability of Yemen.
