Speaker of the Parliament Sultan al-Brakani voiced disappointment for the passivity of the European Union (EU) toward the Houthi militia's atrocities and violations including military escalations, killing, torture, looting the peoples' property and messing up with textbooks.
His remarks came as he met on Monday with the EU Ambassador to Yemen Hans Grundberg.
The session aimed to discuss the developments about the situations in Yemen including Houthi militia's military escalations on Marib, the militia's atrocities and violations, Safer oil tanker and the political, economic and humanitarian situations.
Al-Brakani called on the EU to have a role in pilling up pressures upon Houthi militia to stop its violations and come to peace.
He stated that the legitimate government headed by President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has always been very keen to make peace. To this end it has reacted positively to peace initiatives suggested and sponsored by the UN, including Stockholm Agreement.
Al-Brakani blamed Houthi militia for not implementing Stockholm Agreement, noting that the legitimate leadership come under pressures as the Yemeni political constituencies are asking for withdrawing from the agreement that has proved useless.
The Speaker of Parliament asked the EU to help maintaining Yemen's security, stability and unity, contributing to put an end of Houthi militia's atrocities and violations.
Al-Brakani praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its active role in reaching to Riyadh Agreement, designing executive mechanism to put it in place.
The EU diplomat reiterated the EU's support for the legitimate government and the UN-led efforts to make peace. He stated that the EU is supporting the UN envoy's efforts and his proposal for peace.
He also stressed the importance of halting the war on Marib urgently, noting that the EU is making efforts to help addressing Safer oil tanker problem.
