Arab League supports Yemen's call for Arab intervention to end Houthi coup
[15/06/2018 05:57]
CAIRO-SABA
The Arab League has stressed the imperative of preserving Yemen's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and rejecting any foreign interference in its affairs.

In a statement the permanent representatives to the Arab League issued at the end of an urgent meeting called for by Yemen, chaired by the Sultanate of Oman and supported by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the Arab League renewed its support for President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's internationally recognized government.

The Arab League agreed to the Yemeni government's call for the Arab Coalition forces to put an end to the Houthi coup and restore normalcy and security in all Yemen's provinces mainly the seaport of Hodeidah.

The Arab League supported the Yemeni government's insistence on basing any political settlement on the three pertinent terms of reference (the GCC Initiative, outcomes of the National Dialogue and the UN resolutions including resolution no. 2216) for such a settlement to be comprehensive and sustainable.

The Arab League called on all political groups and actors in Yemen to let reason and the supreme interest of Yemen prevail and to resolve all their differences under the umbrella of the legitimate government of President Abd-Rabbu Mnsour Hadi so as to extricate Yemen out of its current suffering.

The League condemned the systematic Houthi violations of human rights; killings, abductions, forced disappearances, detonation of houses, recruitment of child fighters, militarization of schools and hospitals, besieging of cities, confiscating humanitarian aid arriving at Hodeidah seaport, using the seaport to import smuggled ballistic missiles which they use to target Saudi Arabia, and using the revenues of the port to finance and perpetuate their military campaigns against the Yemeni people.
