Masam Project Removes 3,166 Landmines from Yemeni Territory in February
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre’s project for clearing Yemeni lands of mines (Masam) has succeeded in removing 3,166 landmines from various regions of Yemen during the first week of February 2026.

IFJ denounces the death of Journalist al-Rakan over Houthi torture

The International Federation for Journalist has denounced the barbaric treatment Journalist Anwar al-Rakan was subjected to at Houthi militia's detention at al-Saleh Compound in Taiz and led to his death.

“We utterly condemn the barbaric treatment our brother Anwar was subjected to. It is not a coincidence that we chose Yemen as one of the seven countries for our Opens external link in new window End Impunity campaign.

The war between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition results in increased violations of journalists’ rights.” said IFJ General Secretary Anthony Bellanger was quoted from the federation website.
“These systematic attacks against the press and journalists must stop immediately".

The federation committed to support Yemeni journalists to unearth and stop Houthi continuous violations.

According to al-Rakan's family, he died two days after releasing him from Houthi prisons and that he informed his family shortly before his death that he was subjected to torture in Houthi's detentions.

The medical tests he received soon after his release showed that he was subjected to severe torture.

The Yemeni Journalist Syndicate shouldered Houthi militia the responsibility of the cruel crime led to the death of Anwar al-Rakan, confirming that these crimes will not be subjected to prescription.

Up to 68 percent of press freedom violations in Yemen in Yemen- exceeded 300 cases in 2017- have been committed by Houthis.
