Govtsays Socotra an afflicted province, 17 people missing

The Yemeni government announced early on Thursday that Socotra province to be an afflicted province, after the cyclonic storm Mekunu hit the archipelago causing 17 people to become unaccounted for and others displaced, and incurring severe material damages.
The cyclone hit the Arabian Sea four-island archipelago on Wednesday evening.

Government spokesman RajehBadi said "Socotra province is "stricken with human and material damages at all levels and needs urgent assistance to help people marooned in their villages and their hilltop residences."

He appealed to the Arab Coalition countries and international organizations to provide urgent assistance to those affected by the floods.

The Governor of Socotra RamziMahroosconfirmed that 17 people are still unaccounted for after two ships sank and three cars were swept by the cyclonic storm.
