Yemen has strongly condemned the attacks that some military forces and extremists have been carrying out against the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar.
In a statement to Saba, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deplored "the silence for sectarian killings, violation of human right to life, confiscation of human right to think and hold religious beliefs." The ministry described these acts "an abominable form of ethnic cleansing at a time when the whole world is trying to get rid of the imposition of beliefs by force and the constraining of freedoms by repressive measures, systematic intimidation by killing and displacement."
The statement said that 125 thousand Rohingya civilians had to run for life according to the UN Secretary General António Guterres in his last speech.
"The Republic of Yemen affirms its permanent and full support to the principle of coexistence and the concept of tolerance for maintaining modern civil societies," read the statement.
The statement called on the UN Security Council and all human rights organizations to take a swift action to end the suffering of the afflicted, press the Myanmar government to grant the Rohingyas citizenship and hold human rights abusers to account.
