ADEN-SABA
Yemen's Cabinet held an extraordinary meeting Thursday to ponder on the UN Security Council's last session on Yemen, especially the briefing presented by the UN special envoy.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister Ahmed bin-Daghr in Aden, also reviewed the Yemeni permanent representative to the UN,Khaled al-Yamani's speech on behalf of the Yemeni government.
The Cabinet praised the international community'scontinuing consensual supportto the Yemeni state and to the UN resolutions which entail putting an end to the coup and implementing overdue state building measures from the transitional period.
The Cabinet hailed the UN special envoy Ismaiil Ould Chiekh Ahmed's briefing which set a clear perspective for political settlement, drawing on the agreed upon references; the GCC-brokered Initiative, the National Dialogue outcome and the UNSC resolution no.2216.
The Cabinet liked the proposalby the envoy to have the coup militias handover the Hodeidah vital sea port and cityto a neutral party, instead of retaining it for their use as a military base to threaten the international shipping, smuggle weapons and loot arriving humanitarian aid grants intended for the Yemeni people.
The Cabinet mindfully paused on the warnings of deteriorationin humanitarian situations and the spread of cholera.
The Cabinet knows well that the international community is fully aware of the root cause ofthe conflict that bred the humanitarian misery in Yemen.
This awareness should spur them into acting seriously and effectively to force the rebels and their backers to stop their insurgencyand comply with the international resolutions and the Yemeni people's will.
The Cabinet especially demanded the United Nations and its Security Council to take deterrent measures to stop Iran from prolonging the war by continuing to provide the coup militias with weapons, mainly the missiles with which they threatenthe safety of international shipping in Bab al-Mendab strait, one of the main commercial waterways in the world.
The permanent representative to the UN presented the government's comprehensive views on the humanitarian suffering, including its goodwill manifested in the acceptance of the UN proposal regarding Hodeidah. A proposal that the coup militia refuses, like all previous proposals and initiatives, which fall short of satisfying their masters in Tehran.
The Cabinet warned that any attempts to find a way around the locally agreed and internationally backed references of peace, will only perpetuate the conflict, rather than bring the sought peace.
Then the Cabinet discussed a proposal of agenda priorities.
The proposal gives precedence to ending the rebellion, building the army, normalizing life in government-held areas, implementing the national dialogue outcomes and fighting terrorism.
The Cabinet was briefed by the health minister NaserBaoom on the efforts going on to combat acute water diarrhea and cholera diseases.
