Yemen's Ambassador to the United States, Jamila Raja discussed on Thursday with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Acting Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator Andrika Ratwatte latest humanitarian developments in Yemen and ways to strengthen the international response to the country's growing humanitarian needs.
During the meeting, which was attended by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah al-Saadi, Ambassador Raja stressed that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains one of the government's top national priorities, as millions of Yemenis continue to suffer due to the coup carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist militias.
She underscored the importance of maintaining humanitarian assistance to Yemen, describing it as a key pillar for promoting stability and supporting recovery, reconstruction, and development efforts.
For his part, Ratwatte reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to continue its humanitarian operations in Yemen despite funding constraints and operational challenges.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring and oversight mechanisms to ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches its intended beneficiaries efficiently and transparently.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to mobilize additional international support and enhance the humanitarian response to Yemen's increasing needs, helping alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people while supporting recovery efforts and strengthening security and stability.
