Aden Governor Discusses Humanitarian Interventions and Sustainable Development Projects with OCHA

Minister of State and Governor of Aden Abdulrahman Sheikh met on Sunday with representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), including Deputy Head of Office in Aden Peter Ekayyo, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation and coordination.

During the meeting, Sheikh reviewed efforts by local authorities to stabilize conditions and improve public services with support from regional and international partners, noting that despite ongoing challenges, the overall situation in the governorate remains stable, particularly in the security sector.

He stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and aligning humanitarian and development interventions with local priorities and community needs, calling for a greater focus on sustainable development projects.

Sheikh also urged a shift from emergency relief assistance towards long-term development programmes, in coordination with local authorities and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, to ensure sustainability and maximize impact.

The meeting reviewed sectoral clusters covering education, health, water and sanitation, emergency response, shelter and site management, nutrition, and protection.

Participants highlighted key achievements in 2025, ongoing and planned programmes for 2026, as well as the main humanitarian and development priorities and needs in Aden.
