Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammed al-Faqmi held talks on Tuesday via video conference with Chinese Chargé d’Affaires to Yemen Zhao Zheng on strengthening bilateral development and humanitarian cooperation.

Al-Faqmi expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for China’s support, noting that the ministry is coordinating with relevant government agencies to update the list of urgent humanitarian needs for official submission to the Chinese side.

The discussions covered ongoing development grants in the water and electricity sectors, the Yemeni Customs Authority’s request for inspection equipment, ways to benefit from China’s customs exemptions for Yemeni products exported to China, Yemen’s participation in the upcoming second China-Arab Summit, and the reactivation of the joint Yemeni-Chinese committee for economic and technical cooperation.

Zhao reaffirmed China’s support for Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, as well as its support for the Presidential Leadership Council, headed by His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi. He expressed China’s readiness to continue providing assistance to Yemen during this critical period, reflecting the seven-decade-long historical ties between the two countries.

He also expressed China’s readiness to provide additional humanitarian aid, particularly medical supplies and food, to help address the impact of the recent escalation in Taiz and the western coast.

The two sides agreed to maintain coordination between the ministry and the Chinese embassy and arrange an in-person meeting in the interim capital, Aden.
