Parliament Speaker Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani met Monday with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif, discussing with her bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the latest developments at the regional and international levels.
The two sides reviewed the overall situation in the national arena, particularly support for state institutions, strengthening economic stability, and improving basic services for citizens amid the current circumstances.
Al-Barakani highlighted the efforts of the Prime Minister and the new government, noting the spirit of understanding and harmony among its members, as well as its commitment to adhering to the constitution and law and enhancing effective partnership between the legislative and executive authorities.
He stressed that activating all state institutions represents a fundamental pillar for the success of the government’s work and the achievement of the desired reforms, emphasizing the importance of integrating efforts between the government and international partners to ensure tangible results and improve institutional performance.
The Speaker called on the United Nations and the international community to fulfill their responsibilities in supporting constitutional legitimacy and to adopt a more effective stance in pressuring the Houthi militias to end the coup, restore state institutions, and achieve peace and stability.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening national unity, maintaining the cohesion of the armed forces and security agencies, and unifying efforts to normalize the security situation, contributing to ending the coup and achieving security and stability throughout the country.
For her part, the British Ambassador affirmed her country’s continued support for constitutional legitimacy in Yemen, the provision of humanitarian assistance due to the tragic conditions faced by the Yemeni people, and support for efforts aimed at overcoming existing challenges in cooperation with regional and international partners.
She expressed her hope for the convening of the Parliament and the completion of constitutional processes in a way that contributes to strengthening institutional stability and advancing reform efforts.
She also praised the performance of the Prime Minister and the new government.
