President al-Alimi: Weapons outside State Authority Create Fertile Environment for Extremist Groups' Growth
[12/01/2026 12:18]
RIYADH – SABA

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council His Excellency Dr. Rashad al-Alimi received Monday the Special Commissioner of the German Federal Foreign Office for the Middle East, Near East and North Africa, Tobias Tunkel and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen Thomas Schneider.

The meeting discussed the deep-rooted bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to develop them across all fields, as well as the priorities of German and European support needed to enhance the capabilities of the Yemeni government in enforcing security and stability.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council highly praised the supportive stance of the Federal Republic of Germany toward Yemen, its unity and its stability, in addition to its valued contributions to the humanitarian response plan as one of the largest European donors.

He noted that this steadfast German support embodies a moral commitment to the Yemeni people, who are facing one of the largest humanitarian crises of modern times.

President al-Alimi reviewed the latest local developments following the success of the process of taking over military camps, which represented a corrective measure aimed at unifying security and military decision-making and preventing the country from sliding into chaos.

He explained that this step will decisively contribute to consolidating internal stability, creating a more enabling environment for institutional work, facilitating the flow of aid, and restoring confidence with the international community.

The President also addressed the false narratives that have been promoted to justify unilateral moves in Hadramawt and Al-Mahrah under the pretext of combating terrorism, stressing that the Yemeni case—like many others in the region—proves that supporting militias outside state authority does not combat terrorism, but rather reproduces it.

He emphasized that security chaos, the multiplicity of power centers and the legitimization of weapons outside the framework of the state constitute fertile environment for the growth of extremist groups and the creation of gray zones where militias of all forms intersect with the objectives of terrorist organizations.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council further warned that any attempt to expand hotspots of tension, create new platforms threatening the security of neighboring countries or maritime corridors, is not merely a local gamble, but a risk to global energy security and supply chains, and a real threat to international peace and security.

In this context, the President pointed out that Yemen, by virtue of its geographic location, is not a marginal arena, and that any chaos there will quickly be reflected in the security of maritime shipping through the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, and subsequently on Europe and the entire world.

The President renewed his praise for the role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since Operation Decisive Storm, which prevented the fall of the state into the grip of the Iranian regime, through Operation Restoring Hope, and up to the most recent
de-escalation efforts.

He noted that the Kingdom single-handedly defended the decisions of international legitimacy, supported peace pathways, and shouldered heavy political and humanitarian burdens for the sake of Yemen’s and the region’s stability.

He considered this moment a rare opportunity for the international community in Yemen, with the presence of a single, reliable partner and accountable institutions, instead of dealing with undisciplined militias.

He affirmed that supporting the Yemeni state—politically, economically, and humanitarily—is support for the security and stability of the region and the world.
