The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Dr. Afrah al-Zouba called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) Volker Turk and the Human Rights Council to take urgent action regarding the humanitarian repercussions and violations resulting from the military escalation by the Houthi terrorist militias, amid the rapidly unfolding developments on the western coast and the Bab al-Mandeb areas.

Al-Zouba confirmed, in a message to the High Commissioner, that the Houthi escalation and the attacks on residential areas, displacement camps and civilian facilities have worsened the humanitarian situation and caused waves of displacement.

She called on the High Commissioner, through its Office in Yemen, to step up monitoring and documenting violations, including targeting civilians, planting landmines, and recruiting children and illegal migrants in order to preserve the victims' rights and paves the way for holding those responsible accountable.

The Foreign Minister reiterated her call to the Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner to condemn the Houthi violations and hold them accountable for these violations.
