Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basauhaib discussed Sunday with the National Coordinator of the Food Security and Agriculture Bloc (FAO), Abigail Newkori, ways to cover the severe shortage in food security funding for the year 2026.
The two parties discussed ways to establish compensation mechanisms for the most needy groups affected by the reduction or cessation of humanitarian aid.
The meeting discussed the repercussions of the expected decline in support from some international donors for humanitarian and development programs, especially food programs, especially in light of the increasing challenges facing the country at the economic levels.
The meeting discussed practical proposals to raise the efficiency of expanding the scope of cash transfer programs and providing support for food projects and livelihoods to confront the worsening challenges of the specter of famine and poverty.
During the meeting, it was agreed to hold an urgent meeting this week, including the Ministry of Planning, national authorities, organizations and councils concerned with food security, with the aim of coordinating and working to address financing gaps through alternative financing sources and food security indicators in the liberated governorates.
Conducting joint preparations to participate in the international conference to confront food security in Yemen, which is organized by the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States next October was also discussed.
Dr. Basuhaib pointed out that food insecurity and declining funding threaten to deprive thousands of deserving Yemeni families of basic food aid.
He Explained that the food crisis is exacerbated by several living and social crises, which requires urgent action to mobilize funding and ensure the continuity of life-saving programs.
For her part, the National Coordinator of the Food Security and Agriculture Bloc (FAO) stressed keenness of the Organization (FAO) to continue the effective partnership with the Yemeni government and work to mobilize regional and international support to cover the financing gap and direct resources towards priority sectors and groups.
In addition, Basuhaib discussed with the head of the National Network for Disability Rights Advocacy, Dr. al-Rumaisa Yaqoub, the joint coordination between the two sides, and the benefit of associations and networks interested in people with special needs from international cooperation programs provided by international organizations and donors.
