[27/02/2025 05:43]

AMMAN - SABA
Yemen's Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Dr. Jalal Faqira participated Thursday in the preparatory workshop for the Yemeni Maritime Security Partnership (YMSP) held in the Jordanian capital Amman.

The event was organized by the British Embassy in Yemen, focusing on the importance of maritime security partnerships and economic development in Yemeni waters, as well as addressing maritime security challenges.

During the workshop, attended by the British Deputy Ambassador to Yemen, Charles Harper, and the head of the Yemeni Coast Guard, Major General Khaled Saleh, along with numerous members of the Arab and foreign diplomatic corps and representatives from various international organizations, Ambassador Faqira outlined Yemen's perspective on the security of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

He emphasized the need to protect borders and safeguard islands, advocating for cooperation with all countries bordering these waters, and highlighted the significance of establishing security partnerships through both bilateral agreements and collective arrangements.

Ambassador Faqira asserted that enhancing the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard is a crucial step towards strengthening partnerships at the national, regional, and international levels to safeguard the Red Sea from potential threats.

He underscored the importance of supporting Yemen's capabilities to restore peace and security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, linking this to the necessity of re-establishing state institutions and ensuring the Yemeni government's control over all regions of Yemen.

The ambassador praised the British government's role and the efforts of those involved in the Technical Assistance Fund for Yemen (TAFY) for organizing this workshop and preparing for the Maritime Security Partnership Conference scheduled for April.
