[04/12/2024 06:09]
MARIB - SABA
Marib Governorate Undersecretary Ali al-Fatimi discussed with the Chargé d'Affaires of the Somali Embassy in Yemen Abdulkarim Naser the conditions of the Somali community in the governorate.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Director of the Foreign Affairs Office in the governorate Hussein al-Mustafa and the Director General of the Political Security Branch Brigadier General Naji Hatram, al-Fatimi addressed the local authority's efforts to provide essential humanitarian services to the Somali community and irregular migrants from various countries in the Horn of Africa.

Al-Fatimi reviewed the challenges faced by the local authority leadership in securing the basic needs of approximately two million three hundred thousand displaced persons and around 37,000 migrants residing in the governorate, amid the declining role of international organizations and the diminishing levels of their interventions in food, water, shelter, health, protection, and all essential areas.

The meeting emphasized the necessity for the United Nations, its various bodies and all international organizations to fulfill their humanitarian and moral responsibilities toward African migrants in Marib Governorate, including members of the Somali community, by providing their needs and delivering essential services to them, as well as giving them the necessary care and attention in coordination with the local authority and its representatives in the governorate.

For his part, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Somali Embassy clarified that his visit to Marib Governorate aims to follow up on the voluntary return program for members of the Somali community to their country in coordination with the relevant international organizations.

He praised the humanitarian role of the local authority in Marib and the services it provides, as well as its attention to African migrants in general and the Somali community in particular.
