[11/11/2024 06:39]
BAKU-SABA
Member of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi arrived today in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, leading Yemen's delegation at the Climate Summit (COP29), which is one of the prominent international events addressing global climate challenges.

Upon his arrival at Azerbaijan International Airport, he was welcomed by Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gaybov, along with several officials.

The conference, which features broad international participation, will discuss ways to reduce global warming and its devastating consequences, as well as addressing new financial commitments for poor countries impacted by increasingly frequent heatwaves, storms and floods due to climate change.

Yemen's participation in this summit underscores its commitment to discussing global environmental issues and engaging with international efforts to combat climate change, which poses a significant threat to Yemen across various sectors, including environmental, health, and economy.

The country is experiencing severe climate changes that are putting its biodiversity at increasing risk, necessitating urgent measures and enhanced cooperation with international partners to mitigate these challenges.

During his participation in the conference, the member of the Leadership Council is scheduled to meet with several leaders and officials to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments and issues of mutual interest, in addition to participating in several other events included in the conference agenda.

These include a roundtable meeting on energy transformation and a high-level session on enabling climate finance, where he will highlight the opportunities available in Yemen to harness clean energy sources and the international support needed to achieve national goals in addressing the impacts of climate change.
