Evacuation of about 70,000 people in Cuba in anticipation of floods

More than 66,000 people have been evacuated from Guantanamo in the far east of Cuba ahead of the imminent heavy rains threatening an area that has already been severely impacted by Hurricane Oscar.

These evacuations took place in seven out of ten municipalities in Guantanamo Province (about a thousand kilometers southeast of Havana), where Hurricane Oscar had caused historic flooding and left eight people dead two weeks ago.

The Cuban Meteorological Institute warned on Sunday that "heavy rain, and thunderstorms will reach the eastern tip" of the country.
