Al-Eryani: Houthi militia's storming of Human Rights Commission's premises: extension of their approach to restricting international organizations
[13/08/2024 06:52]

ADEN - SABA
Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Muammar al-Eryani has said the terrorist Houthi militia's storming and seizing the headquarters of the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights in Sanaa, and looting its contents of documents, furniture and vehicles, is an extension of their approach to restricting international organizations.
The militia neglect the dire humanitarian situation in the areas under their control.

Al-Eryani explained in a press statement that this serious development comes after about two months of the wave of kidnappings carried out by the Houthi militia, which targeted dozens of United Nations employees and its affiliated agencies, as well as a number of international and local organizations working in the hijacked capital Sanaa and a number of governorates under their forced control, including four women.

Al-Eryani pointed out that the terrorist Houthi militia considered the hesitant international positions as a "green light" to the militia to escalate their repressive measures against international and humanitarian organizations operating in the areas under their control, and the local employees working in them, without any concern for the disastrous consequences of these practices on the difficult economic and humanitarian situation in the areas under their control.
He added that the lax position of the international community over the past years, and overlooking the Houthi militia's criminal practices, has contributed to reaching this dangerous stage, where the militia storms the headquarters of international organizations and treats their staff as "spies and agents", arresting them by the dozens and taking them to detention centers, using them in the style of ISIS and al-Qaeda as tools for propaganda, pressure, extortion and bargaining.

He reiterated the call for the United Nations mission, all UN agencies, and international organizations operating in Yemen, and the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), to immediately move their main headquarters to the temporary capital Aden and the liberated areas, to ensure the appropriate environment for performing their humanitarian tasks safely and more effectively in serving the needy, and to preserve the lives of their staff.

Al-Eryani called for a firm international stance towards these practices, which represent a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and the adoption of strong and deterrent measures commensurate with the crimes committed by the Houthi militia.

He also called for exerting real pressure on the militia to release all those forcibly detained in its prisons from United Nations and international and local organizations employees, and to immediately proceed with designating it as a global terrorist organization.
