The US ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin has called on the international community to play a greater role in supporting the endeavors of Yemen's Leadership Council as it seeks to re-export oil after the Houthi attacks that targeted the export ports the eastern Yemen terminals of Shabwa and Hadramout.

In a meeting with member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi last evening the Ambassador of the United States renewed his country's support for efforts to end the war and bring peace to Yemen through a comprehensive political process that includes various parties under the supervision of the United Nations, stressing at the same time the importance of the harmony of the Presidential Leadership Council and the cohesion of the government, calling on the international community to play a greater role in supporting the endeavors of the Leadership Council for re-exporting oil after the Houthi attacks that targeted the export ports in Shabwa and Hadramout.

The meeting discussed developments in the political, economic and humanitarian situation in Yemen in light of the efforts made by the regional and international communities to launch a comprehensive political process to end the war and bring about a just and sustainable peace in the region.

In this context, Major General Al-Zubaidi affirmed the readiness of the Presidential Leadership Council to engage in peace efforts.

The meeting also discussed a number of issues related to the economic aspect and the efforts exerted to prevent the deterioration of the humanitarian situation as a result of the continued suspension of oil exports, and ways to support the government to enhance resources, reduce expenditures, and implement real financial and administrative reforms that the citizens will feel, and by enabling merchants importing through the ports under the control of the government to have more benefits, facilitations and an end to the arbitrary practices of the Houthi militia against importing merchants.
