The Yemeni government and its regional and international partners have discussed the country's economic recovery agenda for next decade.
The government held a preparatory virtual meeting with the the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SPDRY), today, to evaluate the Istanbul Program of Action (IPoA) for the past decade, and to contribute to building the LDCs' agenda for the next decade. They discussed ways to achieve economic and developmental recovery post the conflict ignited the coup of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in September 2014.
Ministers of International Cooperation, Finance, Electricity, and Public Works participated in the meeting.
The meeting shed light on the IPoA for the past decade 2011-2020, and a program for the least developed countries in the region, namely Yemen, Mauritania, Sudan and Somalia, and ways to face challenges and come up with a comprehensive strategy to cover the next 10 years, to contribute to enabling the LCSs to achieve sustainable development goals.
The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Wa'ed Badeeb, said, “The ambitious goal of the Istanbul Program of Action for the past decade 2011-2020 was to overcome the structural challenges faced by the least developed countries, including Yemen, and to achieve economic growth at a rate of at least 7 per cent by enhancing their production capacity, achieving the Millennium Goals, and embarking on sustainable development 2030 in a way that allows it to leave the category of LDCs. "
He said that in addition to promoting human and social development, empowering women and promoting good governance, "Yemen has dealt very positively with the program and tried to incorporate the components of the program in one way or another in its plans and policies, and achieved some achievements and failed in others.
