Yemen calls Security Council to implement its resolutions, notably Resolution 2216
[14/12/2018 08:17]

NEW YORK-SABA
The Republic of Yemen has called the UN Security Council to work on implementing its resolutions on Yemen, mainly the Resolution 2216 for ending the war and the country does not need issuing more resolutions.

In a release to the Republic of Yemen recited by Yemen's Ambassador to the United Nations Abdullah al-Sa'adi before the Security Council's opened session on the Middle East (Yemen,) he confirmed that what has been resulted in Sweden's consultations represents a serious step in taking confidence- building measures into consideration and brings news of admirable peace by Yemeni people.

He pointed out that the government made and has been making concessions whatever difficult they are for realizing sustainable peace based on the three agreed upon references embarking from the government's belief that the war is made by the foolish and peace is made by the brave.

He thanked the UN Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffithsand Mark Lowcock of OCHA for their efforts and their briefings and thanked Swede Government on behalf of the government and the Yemeni people for hosting the consultation rounds held in December 6-13 and thanked warmly the UN Secretary General AntónioGuterresfor his personal commitment on supporting peace efforts in Yemen.

"President of the Republic Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi has confirmed readiness of the Government of Yemen to go to any peace consultations anywhere, but this readiness is subjected to serious implementation by the Houthi militias for what has been agreed upon in Sweden," he said.

He added that they hoped reaching agreement on the rest issues of confidence-building measures associated with opening Sana'a airport, ending Taiz siege and agreement on economic domain but the stubbornness of the Iran-backed coupist party on increasing suffering of the Yemeni people failed these efforts.

Al-Sa'adi pointed out that the government of Yemen has signed more than 75 agreements since the beginning of the aggression of this group feed by Iran for four years and the other party has not implemented them and we hope that the UN should shoulder its responsibility on implementing those agreements.

"We came to this hall with hope and great optimism on agreement resulted from the consultations ended yesterday in Sweden and focused on confidence-building measures despite our hopes have been greater to end suffering of the Yemeni people … we still have big caution build on our past experiences and Houthi non commitment of Houthi militia on the agreements they sign and breach every time," he said.

Yemen's permanent representative to the UN added:" We heard yesterday in this hall members of the Security Council and the International Community expressing their deep concern on Iran continuous support to Houthi militia and supplying it with rockets and weapons in a blatant violation to the UN resolutions led by resolutions 2216 and 2231 for 2015 and its continuous threat to the stability of the region through its agents Houthis and Hezbollah in Lebanon and in other regional countries."

The Permanent Representative al-Sa'adi called on Iran to stop its harm and interferences in Yemen's internal affairs, calling the international community for more pressure on the Iranian regime to turn to lifting suffering of Iranian people and subject its resources to the prosperity of its people instead of subjecting them for supporting terrorist groups and their agents in the region.

Pointing to economic measures taken by the government for recovering the economy and keeping the prices of the local currency stable before USD and other currencies, he said the government needs support of the international community in different fields for shouldering its economic and humanitarian responsibilities and committing Houthi militia to stop its practices for more deterioration of economy and humanitarian condition.

He confirmed that the government made the humanitarian and relief files on the top of its priority list during the past four years and has been keen on providing relief to all Yemeni people.
