The government of Yemen has confirmed its steadfast commitment to achieving sustainable development goals and enhancing solidarity and social integration.

This commitment is part of its efforts to implement the "Copenhagen" Declaration on Social Development and the Global Agenda for Social Development, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

This was stated in a speech delivered by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah al-Sa'adi, at the 63rd Session of the Commission for Social Development held at the UN headquarters in New York today.

Ambassador al-Sa'adi emphasized that achieving sustainable social development requires addressing the root causes of poverty, ensuring equal economic opportunities, and promoting fundamental human rights for all.

He noted that the world is still far from achieving the ambitious goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, especially in least developed countries, including Yemen, which faces multidimensional crises due to the Houthi militia's coup against the aspirations of the Yemeni people and national consensus.

This has led to a prolonged cycle of conflict, resulting in one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
Ambassador al-Sa'adi explained that despite significant challenges, the Yemeni government continues to intensify its efforts to restore state institutions and activate their role.

It has undertaken a series of economic and administrative reforms aimed at supporting the national economy, creating a conducive environment for enhancing the role of the private sector, and involving it in the process of sustainable economic development.

This aims to expand the production base, diversify income sources, promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, create job opportunities to alleviate unemployment and poverty rates, and support micro and small enterprises, including those managed by women and youth in rural areas, to enhance livelihoods and increase household income, with support from brotherly and friendly countries and international organizations.

He pointed out that the government looks forward to the second global summit on social development, scheduled to be held in the Qatari capital, Doha, at the end of this year, viewing it as a crucial opportunity to strengthen international consensus on the importance of ensuring equitable access to essential services and economic opportunities, and intensifying investment in human capacity development to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, and achieve inclusive development.

He noted that the summit represents an opportunity to reinforce practical commitments that promote socially just and cohesive communities, with a focus on the role of the family as the fundamental unit for building society and a main pillar for enhancing social cohesion, contributing to the realization of the Copenhagen Declaration goals and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

Ambassador al-Sa'adi reiterated the Yemeni government's commitment to intensifying efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and implement the outcomes of the 2025 Global Summit on Social Development, which focuses on eradicating poverty, providing productive and decent work opportunities for all, and enhancing social integration.

Al-Sa'adi called on the international community to support national efforts aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, contributing to building more just and sustainable communities.
