RABAT-SABA
The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Muammar al-Eryani met Friday with the Director-General of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO) Dr. Mohammed Al-Amar.
During the meeting, held on the sidelines of the conference for ministers responsible for cultural affairs in the Arab world taking place in the Moroccan capital Rabat from January 14-15, al-Eryani discussed the attempts to erase Yemen's cultural identity by the Houthi terrorist militias and their persistent efforts to impose foreign Persian-Iranian identities on Yemeni society through the establishment of institutes that promote the teaching of Persian languages and undermine those in formal education, including teachers and students, by cutting salaries and imposing fees and levies.
Minister al-Eryani emphasized that the community in areas controlled by the Houthi militias rejects all attempts to erase its cultural identity by adhering to traditional customs and the authentic Yemeni heritage, maintaining them more than ever.
Al-Eryani praised the existing cooperation between the ministry and ALECSO, stressing the urgent needs that the organization could address to assist Yemen through training courses in various cultural fields, as well as providing scholarships at the Arab Institute for Studies to qualify youth in literature, culture, and creativity. He also mentioned cooperation in publishing several cultural books and organizing programs in managing cultural and creative industries, preserving and valuing cultural heritage, and utilizing it for development.
The minister commended the efforts made by the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science to organize and successfully conduct the current conference of Arab culture ministers in Rabat.
For his part, the Director-General of ALECSO Dr. Mohammed Al-Amar expressed his gratitude to Minister al-Eryani, showing the organization's readiness to cooperate in addressing urgent needs and all other areas related to culture and the protection of Yemeni cultural heritage.
He affirmed the organization’s interest in programs and participation of Yemeni representatives, especially given the exceptional circumstances Yemen is facing, as well as conducting capacity-building programs in heritage preservation and protection and cultural policies.
