NEW YORK-SABA
The Republic of Yemen renewed the call for the United Nations (UN) to initiate the convening of a donors' conference to support the humanitarian response plan in Yemen in a way that meets the size of the existing humanitarian needs in various sectors.
The Permanent Representative of Yemen to the UN Ambassador Abdullah al-Sa'adi, underscored the need for the UN and the international community to keep the humanitarian situation in Yemen on its list of priorities to alleviate human suffering.
Speaking at the plenary session of the UN General Assembly on item 72: (Strengthening the coordination of humanitarian and disaster relief assistance provided by the UN, including special economic assistance), al-Sa'adi reiterated the appeal to the UN and the international community to intensify efforts for the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees and detainees, and to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable.
The Republic of Yemen warned of the dangers of overlooking violations, through which the terrorist Houthi militias seek to serve their political agenda, harness humanitarian aid to serve their security and military goals and turn the areas under their control into a prison for anyone who opposes their policies.
The Yemeni government renewed its demand to transfer the headquarters of the UN's agencies and international organizations operating in Yemen to the temporary capital of Aden to ensure the security and safety of humanitarian workers and provide an appropriate and sound environment to exercise their tasks away from interventions.
Al-Sa'adi pointed out to the natural disasters Yemen suffered this year. He said "During this year, a number of Yemeni governorates were hit by floods and torrential rains, which caused severe damage to infrastructure, massive destruction to public and private property and resulted in the death of dozens and the displacement of hundreds of the citizens " .
He noted that the accumulation of the effects of war and disasters related to climate change has exacerbated the humanitarian and economic situation in Yemen, which makes it very difficult for the Yemeni government's efforts to face these challenges. Therefore , a substantial support by the international community is very necessary to face these challenges and meet emergency humanitarian needs.
