ADEN - SABA
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries Major General Salem al-Soqatri inspected Monday the salvage operations of sunken ships at the fishing port in the temporary capital, Aden.
This is part of the project to rehabilitate and develop the fishing port, which is being implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with funding from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the German Development Bank.
Minister al-Soqatri was briefed by Dr. Abdulsalam Ahmed, the Chairman of the Aden Gulf Fisheries Authority, and representatives from the executing company about the ongoing work to salvage 22 sunken ships.
More than 40% of the work has been completed, and efforts continue to recover the remaining vessels.
The Minister emphasized that the fishing port is one of the most promising economic sectors with significant potential and diverse profitable investment opportunities, ranging from fishing to processing and supplying local markets with fish at reasonable prices.
It is expected to contribute effectively to economic growth by developing fish production and increasing exports.
He stressed the need to expedite the salvage of the sunken ships, which have an environmental impact, and to adhere to the technical specifications and requirements that support sustainable development.
