VP, UN Envoy discuss peace prospects

Vice President of the Republic (Lt. Gen) Ali Mohsen Saleh met today with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen Hans Grundberg to discuss the UN-led efforts to establish peace in Yemen.

Mohsen restated that the ongoing war the legitimate government's troops have been fighting is purely defensive, stems out from a principled position sticking to peace option based on the three agreed on peace reference.

He affirmed the government commitment to deal constructively with different peace proposals, the latest one was suggested by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the legitimate government has warmly welcomed , it is also welcomed regionally and international but Houthi militia has rejected it.

The Vice President informed the UN Envoy about Houthi militia's atrocities deliberately committed to block peace efforts, worsening the Yemeni peoples suffering, further deepening the humanitarian crisis.

He cited Houthi militia's continous attacks on the heavily populated cities, first and foremost the city of Mairb, which has been housing some three million IDPs, firing ballistic missiles on residential areas and facilities in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, like Mocha seaport as well as threatening international marine lines.

The Vice President stated that the International Community should bear its responsibility toward Houthi militia's practices aiming to block peace efforts.

He blamed Houthi militia for misusing Stockholm Agreement, exploiting it to mobilize its militants, receive Iranian weapons to destabilize security and stability.

The UN envoy briefed Mohsen on the outcomes of his different meetings aimed to get familiar with the developments of the situations and explore peace chances.

He confirmed his keenness to reach permanent solution, resume political process to put an end of the Yemeni peoples' suffering.
