ADEN - SABA
Governor of the Central Bank Ahmed Obaid Al-Fadhli discussed with the head of the EU mission to Yemen and the French and Swedish ambassadors to Yemen cooperation between Yemen and the European Union countries in monetary and banking fields.
In a meeting with the visiting EU delegation in the temporary capital Aden today, Al-Fadhli reviewed the efforts of the Central Bank to maintain the stability of the exchange rate of the Yemeni Riyal, provide financial liquidity, manage monetary policy, and pay salaries to state employees in the military and civil sectors, including employees in areas under the control of the Houthi militia, despite the militia’s continued looting of revenue and failing to deposit it in the Central Bank .
Talks came over the Houthi ban on newly printed banknotes of the Riyal in the rebel militia's areas of control and the disastrous repercussions of that illegal move on the national economy and the humanitarian situation in the whole country, most prominent of which was the deprivation of tens of thousands of state employees and retirees from receiving their monthly salaries that the government has been paying for more than a year.
The Governor stressed the importance of the international community's assumption of responsibility to stop these irresponsible measures by the militia.
