Attorney General Qaher Mustafa chaired a meeting on Wednesday with prosecutors and concerned officials, discussing coordination and cooperation mechanisms between the Public Prosecution and relevant authorities to combat custom smuggling crimes, including the smuggling of goods, antiquities, gold, drugs and military and dual-use equipment.
During the meeting, which included First Public Prosecutor Judge Fawzi Saif, Public Prosecutor for Public Funds Nabil Jobah, Head of the Public Funds Prosecution Abdullah Salem and representatives from the tax and customs prosecution, as well as the Anti-Corruption Prosecution, the Attorney General emphasized the importance of preparing reports and summoning the Public Prosecution to document incidents, secure confiscated items, and ensure they are not handed over to any other entity, as the Public Prosecution is the competent authority to manage them according to the law.
He stressed the need for swift legal actions by the relevant prosecutions in economic cases and those related to public health, given their significance in reinforcing the rule of law and establishing the foundations of the state.
The meeting also addressed obstacles faced by law enforcement agencies, particularly the interference of some unauthorized entities in customs and security procedures at ports and airports.
In this context, the Attorney General instructed that immediate reports be submitted by prosecutions and security forces regarding any illegal interventions, emphasizing the need to continue holding such meetings to activate the role of law enforcement agencies and enhance coordination among concerned authorities.
