Yemen's ambassador to Moscow said the Yemeni government is keen on boosting the function of the United Nations Verification and Inspection Mechanism screening cargos and preventing arms from entering the country.
In a meeting with ambassadors of the Arab Coalition countries and the Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow here today, Ahmed al-Wuhayshi said this mechanism won't be properly enforced unless the Houthi militia first withdraw from the city and ports of Hodeidah.
Al-Wuhayshi stressed the imperative enforcing the Joint Coordination and Redeployment Plan in Hodeidah as per the UN-supervised agreement between the government and the rebel militia.
The UNVIM was instituted by the United Nations at the request of the Government of Yemen as an arms embargo control mechanism to ensure compliance with Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015).
