MARIB-SABA
Marib Deputy Governor Dr. Abdrabuh Miftah met on Tuesday with IOM Yemen Country Programme Coordinator Katia Jurik, who is currently visiting the province, to discuss ways to strengthen humanitarian operations as local authorities grapple with mounting needs and a sharp decline in humanitarian funding.
The meeting reviewed the International Organization for Migration's ongoing and planned interventions across the province, as well as its advocacy efforts aimed at mobilizing greater support from European and Asian donors to help address the worsening humanitarian situation and ease the burden on internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities.
Dr. Miftah commended the IOM's longstanding partnership with the local authority, praising its leadership in coordinating humanitarian action, monitoring displacement trends into Marib, and working closely with other humanitarian organizations to deliver emergency assistance.
He also highlighted the organization's interventions across multiple sectors, saying they have played an important role in alleviating the suffering of displaced families and strengthening the overall humanitarian response despite rapidly increasing needs.
For her part, Jurik reaffirmed that Marib remains one of the IOM's highest operational priorities due to the large number of internally displaced people hosted by the province, in addition to the presence of irregular migrants arriving from the Horn of Africa.
She said the organization would continue engaging with international donors and partners, encouraging them to visit Marib and gain firsthand insight into the province's humanitarian conditions and the scale of its urgent needs.
Jurik also reaffirmed the IOM's commitment to its close partnership with the local authority, noting that the organization will continue prioritizing sustainable development initiatives, livelihood improvement projects, and efforts to mobilize additional resources to reinforce the emergency humanitarian response.
