Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Afrah al-Zouba met Wednesday here with the Country Director of Save the Children International, Rishana Hanifa.
She discussed with her areas of cooperation and partnership between the two sides and ways to enhance humanitarian and development interventions.
The meeting reviewed the current humanitarian, economic and development situation, as well as the challenges facing Yemen, including the repercussions of declining international humanitarian funding and its impact on vital sectors, particularly health, education, and social protection.
It also discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation and partnership during the coming period.
The discussions addressed the possibility of expanding interventions in priority sectors, the organization’s plans and directions for the 2026–2027 period, and opportunities to develop future projects that support recovery and development efforts.
The importance of supporting health, nutrition, education, child protection, food security, livelihoods, and resilience-building was also emphasized.
During the meeting, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation praised the organization’s role in supporting health, nutrition, education, and child protection sectors, as well as strengthening the resilience of local communities in Yemen.
She stressed the importance of aligning the organization’s programs and interventions with government priorities and the National Development Plan, and the need to link humanitarian work with recovery efforts and sustainable development, moving from emergency response toward long-term solutions.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and relevant government bodies to ensure the effectiveness of interventions and achieve sustainable impact.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the organization in a way that contributes to improving the conditions of children, families, and local communities in Yemen.
For her part, the Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children International affirmed that the organization will continue implementing its humanitarian and development programs to address the urgent needs of the most vulnerable groups, with a focus on supporting children and women, enhancing recovery opportunities, and building resilience in local communities.
She praised the level of cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and relevant government authorities, which contributes to achieving sustainable development outcomes.
