Eryani condemns school attack, says UN silence gives Houthi terrorism greenlight
[26/09/2020 01:28]

RIYADH-SABA
Yemen’s Information Minister condemned a missile attack by Houthi militia against a school in the government-held Marib city on Friday night and said the silence of the UN “gives green light to the militia to continue their terrorist activity.”

In a statement to Saba, al-Eryani said the theocratic rebel militia wanted “to incur the largest possible number of casualties among civilians.”

The militia fighting relentlessly for years to capture territories from the government especially including Marib hit the main school in city with a ballistic missile as hundreds of schoolgirls were rehearsing for a parade on the 26th September, the Day of Revolution against the Houthis’ ancestors who ruled pre-1962 Yemen.

The school was hosting the student parade and a symbolic lighting of torch in the present of government officials on the occasion. The missile narrowly missied hundreds of students who luckily had left the school minutes before the attack.

“The attempt to target the torch lighting is meant “to incur the largest possible number of casualties among civilians. It is … an attempt to satisfy their vengeful feeling that they could not secure a military victory on the ground” in the peripheries of Marib, he said.

He said the repeated Houthi targeted attacks on “civilian properties and neightbhoods with Iranian-made missiles and drones and the intent to affect millions of IDPs” by hitting the public facilities they use is “a full-fledged war crime.”

“The continuous silence of the UN, the UN Security Council permanent members and the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths at the Houthi deliberate targeting of civilians is a shame for humanity. It gives green light to the militia to continue their terrorist activity.”
