Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Hussein Basalamah said that "the Houthi coupist militia has "militarized Yemen's universities" and turned them to "centers for mobilizing sectarian" militants.
In a speech on Wednesday in the Balanced and Inclusive Education Conference which is taking place in the Mexican capital, Basalamah said the Houthi militia's violations which infringe all international human rights laws and other conventions have extended to affect the academia in Yemen. Many academia and workers in higher education institutions have suffered dismissal from jobs by the armed militia since they seized the capital Sana'a by coup in September 2014.
