Al-Mekhlafi meets with Deputy Assistant of US Secretary of State
[26/03/2018 05:39]

RIYADH-SABA
Deputy Premier, Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi met Monday with First Deputy Assistant of the US Secretary of State Joan . M Clark, with presence of the US ambassador to Yemen Mathew Tuller.

Yemeni-American bilateral ties and aspects of cooperation were key focus of the talks between Al-Mekhlafi and the US' s officials.

The talks also touched upon the US' s role in Geneva Conference scheduled to be held next April with the purpose of mobilizing resources to fund the UN Humanitarian Response Plan of 2018 in Yemen.

The Foreign Minister reiterated t that war has never been the legitimate government's choice, it was rather imposed on the government to defend the Yemeni people, restore the state's instructions and go on completing the political peaceful transition.

The Foreign Minister viewed firing missiles by the militia whilst the UN's newly appointed envoy Martin Griffith was on a visit to the capital Sana'a' as a clear Iranian message to prevent any negotiations aiming to bring about peace so that Houhi militia keep on assaulting the Yemeni people and neighboring countries. He stated that peace can't be realized unless this militia is disarmed.

The Foreign Minister described Houthi militia's flagrant aggression on the Saudi Arabia's territories and people as one more message to the EU and the European ambassadors delegation to Yemen who have been to Sana'a on a humanitarian mission. The message is that the militia doesn't want peace as long as it can capitalize on the status quo to amass as much money as possible.

For her part, the US diplomat has affirmed the US government's steady support for the legitimate government of the Republic of Yemen and the Yemeni people. She also stressed that it is important that all parties to support the UN's good offices and the Secretary General's envoy in order to achieve peace in Yemen.
