The permanent Egyptian mission to the UN office in Europe said that the participation of Yemen's Human Rights Minister in the 36th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva is a real sign that Yemen is keen to cooperate with the HRC.
Delivering his country's speech before the HRC, the chief of the Egyptian mission Muhannad Muwazi expressed his regret over the failure of the OHCH-Yemen office to cooperate with the Yemeni government for the second year in a row, which violates the HRC's resolution 16/33.
He pointed out that the OHCHR's report made only rare mention of the technical cooperation and capacity building with the competent authorities in Yemen.
He said: "We were hoping that the OHCHR would take the report of the National [Yemeni] Committee for Investigating Alleged Human Rights Abuses into account. A report that spans the period from September 214 to June 2017, and contains documentation of violations, investigations, interviews, with victims and witnesses, and documentation of files referred to the court."
He said that "the OHCHR's report implicitly puts the government which strives to implement the law and respects human rights on equal footing with rebel forces that violate human rights and use violence and terrorist methods to realize their narrow political goals at the expense the Yemeni people." .
He called on the OHCHR to offer technical assistance in capacity building for the Yemeni government and to study the Yemeni investigation committee's report honestly and offer technical assistance to the committee while respecting the national sovereignty as per the international law.
