AMMAN-SABA
Yemen and Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding on environmental protection in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Sunday.
The MoU was signed by Yemen’s Ambassador to Jordan, Dr. Jalal Faqira, and Jordanian Environment Minister Dr. Ayman Abdullah. It provides for the exchange of policies, expertise and technologies in air, water and soil protection, promotion of clean technologies, and sound management of waste and hazardous materials.
The agreement also covers cooperation in ecotourism, marine environmental protection, nature reserve management, combating desertification, and conducting joint studies and research to protect biodiversity. It further provides for cooperation in addressing climate change through adaptation and mitigation measures, exchanging expertise in environmental impact assessment, and integrating environmental considerations into national development plans.
Under the MoU, a joint technical committee will be established to oversee its implementation, coordinate cooperation programs and activities, and propose new areas of partnership to strengthen environmental cooperation between the two countries.
