Prime Minister Discusses UNOPS Projects in Yemen

Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaya Zindani on Wednesday met in Aden with Head of the Yemen Office of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Reyhana Zuwar to review ongoing and planned development projects across Yemen’s infrastructure and basic services sectors.

The discussions focused on UNOPS-supported interventions in electricity, water and sanitation, health, education, and other essential services, along with the agency’s upcoming project pipeline and coordination with the Yemeni government to align assistance with national priorities and urgent needs.

Zuwar provided an overview of current activities and future plans, highlighting opportunities to expand cooperation on infrastructure and basic service delivery projects aimed at addressing critical gaps in public services.

Zindani welcomed continued UN engagement in Yemen’s development efforts, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with UN agencies and ensuring that international support is aligned with national recovery priorities.

He stressed the importance of close coordination between the government and UNOPS to channel funding toward high-impact projects in key sectors, particularly electricity, water, health, and education, where targeted interventions could produce tangible improvements in citizens’ daily lives.
The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also referred to the government’s broader reform agenda aimed at improving institutional efficiency and enhancing the state’s capacity to absorb and implement international development assistance.
