ADEN – SABA
Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Adnan al-Kaf discussed Tuesday with the European Union Ambassador to Yemen Patrick Simonnet bilateral relations between Yemen and EU countries.
Ways to strengthen joint cooperation in the field of electricity and energy were also discussed.
During the meeting, Minister al-Kaf reviewed the status of electricity services, the reasons behind the increasing outages and government’s efforts to address them within available resources—especially with the onset of the summer season—in a way that contributes to increasing generation capacity and reducing the energy deficit.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that any support or technical cooperation aligns with the priorities and plans set by the ministry and relevant institutions to guarantee optimal use of the provided programs, strengthen the infrastructure of transmission and distribution networks, and improve the efficiency of the electrical system.
The Minister of Electricity called on EU countries, as well as friendly and brotherly nations to support the electricity and energy sector in restoring its normal status as a service and investment sector, contributing to improving services provided to citizens.
He also pointed to the challenges facing Yemen and their impact on people's lives.
For his part, the EU Ambassador reaffirmed the EU countries’ firm position in supporting the Yemeni government across various sectors, particularly electricity and energy, emphasizing the Union’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership with Yemen.
